shootingWAYNESBORO, Pa. — A Franklin County pharmacy is back to business after an attempted robbery Monday that resulted in the suspect being shot by the store owner.
Police said a man wearing a mask, armed with a handgun, walked into Antietam Pharmacy in Waynesboro and demanded drugs and money, all the while threatening the staff.
"He was just going berserk. He was waving a gun at us, pointing it at us. And the longer he was here, the more aggressive he got," pharmacy owner David Riley said.
Fearing for the safety of employees, Riley pulled out his own handgun and fired four shots, injuring the would-be robber.
"Nobody wants to shoot another person, but you have to do what has to be done," Riley said.
Riley told CBS 21 he has gun permits in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
The suspect, Zachary Edward Kuhn of Gettysburg, is still in the hospital. He is listed in critical but stable condition after receiving three gunshot wounds.
Kuhn is charged with one count of armed robbery, one count of persons not to possess firearms, three counts of simple assault and three counts of recklessly endangering another person. He also has prior convictions for multiple felony drug offenses and robbery.
No employees or customers were injured.
